Mammal faces
digital painting, 2025/2026

Those few moments when you got an hour or less in the studio, and there’s nothing you can do or want to…
On the left: Arsinoitherium, strange not only for being anything but a rhino (in fact an afrothere in the close relationship of elephants and manatees) but also for their duration from the latest Eocene to the middle Oligocene, which means it passed the Grande Coupure extinction event in a very untypical way.
On the right: Cave bear (Ursus spelaeus) watching you. They say it was a herbivore. Well, Arsinoitherium was a plant eater, too. Does not mean they wouldn’t harm me. Which was even worse: Kill me first, but then not enjoy me?
